EDU-DEX was founded as a non-profit foundation on 23 January 2014 and has the following objectives:
- to make information about trainng programmes as transparent and accessible as possible to potential participants and their employers
- to increase the accuracy and updating frequency of training information
- to save costs for both suppliers and customers by developing and managing one open data standard for training programme descriptions
- to create one independent address for training information.
In 2013, a large group of training suppliers decided that their collective supply should be freely available to customers through a central address – updated every day. They choose to work together towards a transparent, efficient training market in which quality is recognisable and in which data are up-to-date on a daily basis.
To this end, one open data standard was developed, which ended the costly jumble of data flows between training suppliers and their customers. Training information became maximally transparent and comparable.
Early in 2014, a non-profit foundation was established. It manages the standard and ensures optimal support for organisations with collecting and maintaining information about training programmes.
The joint training suppliers cover the operational costs of EDU-DEX. Customers of training programmes can use EDU-DEX information free of charge.
Early 2018, EDU-DEX concluded an extensive pilot in the Dutch market, and started to service international suppliers and customers.
